Television and film star James Nesbitt is preparing to take centre stage this summer as he competes alongside a star-studded field of famous faces at the Legends Tour Wapp Celebrity Series event at Seapoint Golf Links.

Played between June 21-25, the Irish Legends at Seapoint Golf Links – located on the east coast of Ireland and just an hour north of Dublin – will also welcome greats of the game including 2014 European Ryder Cup-winning captain Paul McGinley and former US Masters winner Ian Woosnam. The event will be hosted by former Ryder Cup and DP World Tour player Des Smyth and fellow former Tour professional Roddy Carr.

The first major international tournament held at Seapoint Golf Links, the popular Wapp Celebrity Series will take place as the official tournament gets underway on Thursday, June 22, following the Championship Pro-Am on Wednesday, June 21. Stars from the world of entertainment and sport are set to battle it out as they look to secure a place at the Celebrity Series Grand Final – an event where they will compete for a share of a £100,000 prize for their chosen charities.

Nesbitt will tee it up at the event as he returns to Ireland after taking part in last year’s Celebrity Series at Rosapenna Hotel & Golf Resort.

“I love my golf, so to be able to play alongside Legends Tour players while playing for a place in the Wapp Celebrity Series Grand Final to compete for charity is an incredible opportunity,” Nesbitt said.

“The event promises to be a fantastic week and I am looking forward to competing in front of Irish golf fans in Termonfeckin. I am super excited to be playing at Seapoint Golf Links also – I have only heard great things about the course so am looking forward to playing it for the very first time.”

The Northern Irishman – who’s breakthrough television role playing Adam Williams in romantic comedy-drama series Cold Feet earned him much acclaim – will be joined in Ireland by a host of famous faces, including boyband stars Brian McFadden and Keith Duffy (the latter crowned 2021 Celebrity Series Grand Final winner), and former Manchester United and England striker Teddy Sheringham.

Irish Gaelic football legend Jim Gavin will also be present, as the most successful manager in the history of the game looks to get back to the Grand Final at Constance Belle Mare Plage in Mauritius, which hosted the event in 2021 when the 51-year-old finished in a tie for third place alongside former Celtic and Scotland football manager Gordan Strachan.

Co-designed by tournament co-host Des Smyth in the early nineties, Seapoint Golf Links measures over 7,100 yards and dives across largely unspoilt, rugged links land. One of the most quintessential courses on the east coast of Ireland, the course offers stunning views out and over the Irish Sea and the Morne Mountains.

Tickets are now on sale for the event, with day tickets priced at €15 for an adult, €10 for concessions (over 50s) and free entry for juniors (under 16s), while season passes are also available.

Phil Harrison, chief executive of the Legends Tour, said: “Seapoint Golf Links is a rising star in the ranks of Irish links courses and we are delighted to bring the first major international professional event here, and our popular Wapp Celebrity Series event.

“We are delighted that so many famous faces have returned for this year’s event held as part of the Irish Legends, including James Nesbitt, Jim Gavin and our former Grand Final winner Keith Duffy. The day promises to be incredibly special, so make sure you grab your tickets now to see a whole host of famous faces hit the fairways.”

Places remain available for ‘Playing Experience’ packages at the Irish Legends. The Celebrity Series playing experience will see participants team up with a celebrity and Legends Tour professional for one round of golf while receiving access to the player’s lounge for breakfast, bespoke gifts, and hospitality post-event.

Amateur golfers looking for an exclusive opportunity to live out the life of a golf legend across several days can sign up for the Alliance Series event in Ireland, playing in front of live crowds and TV cameras for three rounds of golf – one in the Celebrity Series and two in the Alliance Series. Players will also receive a four-night stay in the official tournament hotel, a bespoke gift pack and invitations to all exclusive functions.

There is still availability to watch all the action with tickets available to purchase via the link below.
