Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow will play no further part in the JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro this weekend after they both missed the cut by a distance.
Maguire missed the cut by seven shots after a second round of 76 gave her an eight-over total while Meadow suffered a back nine collapse that saw her drop from the fringes of contention to below the cut.
It’s the Cavan native’s first missed cut since September.
A back nine of 40 gave Meadow a six-over 77 and she missed the cut on five-over-par.
The Jordanstown native was only six shots off the pace after a birdie and two bogeys on her front nine but three bogeys and a very costly double saw her tumble down the leaderboard and it’s back-to-back missed cuts.
India’s Aditi Ashok carded a one-under 70 to lead the way by the minimum on six-under. Cheyenne Knight, Hannah Green and Pernilla Lindberg are all in second place on -5.
A blistering run of birdie, birdie, eagle was the catalyst for Ashok’s round as she briefly got to nine-under. Despite giving three shots away on her last eleven including two bogeys in her closing three, she remains in front.
It’s the Indian’s first overnight lead on the LPGA Tour and the highlight of her day was a hoe out from 85 yards on the par-5 15th.
“Actually me and my dad, we were talking, like going back and forth because it was kind of an in-between number, so we were almost trying to hit the next wedge because there’s water short of the green,” said Ashok, who has one worldwide win this season, the Magical Kenya Ladies Open on the LET. “But I decided to hit that one a little more full, and we got the number exactly right because it landed in the hole, so we’re like, okay, maybe it’s not a bad number.”
