Matthew McClean is one of six amateurs teeing it up at Augusta and local support for the Malone club man means BoyleSports has trimmed the chances of him making the cut on his major bow into 4/1 from 11/2.
Compatriot Rory McIlroy however has his sights on a bigger prize and the World Number 2 has gone favourite at 13/2 from 7/1 to complete a career grand slam and bag his first major since the 2014 PGA Championship. That puts him ahead of defending champion Scottie Scheffler and in-form Spaniard Jon Rahm.
Shane Lowry is 7/2 with BoyleSports to finish best of the Irish, with Waterford’s Seamus Power rated at 6/1.
Tiger Woods, having arrived at the course to fine tune his game before a return to the fairways, is another that’s attracting interest from the punters. The 15-time major winner has been clipped into 66/1 from 80/1 to add another green jacket to his CV, and is priced at 40/1 to be leading after the first round.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Matthew McClean must be pinching himself teeing it up with the world’s best at Augusta this week and the local support suggests he won’t be there just to make up the numbers.”
