Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow found the going tough on day one of the DIO Implant LA Open and they have work to do to make the cut.

Maguire never got any momentum in her opening round of 72 while Meadow is languishing towards the foot of the leaderboard on seven-over after a 78 at Palos Verdes.

Maguire is on one-over after an early double bogey left her with plenty of work to do.

The Cavan native picked up a shot on the 5th before she gave it back at the par-5 14th, although she did close with a birdie on 18.

It leaves Maguire in a share of 47th place, seven shots shy of leader Mi Hyang Lee who leads by one from Hyo Too Kim after an opening 65.

Lee has been plying her trade on the Epson Tour this year and missed out on Monday qualifying for the LPGA Drive On Championship last week.

“Actually Monday qualifying is really tough. Now I know it. And then, yes, but both is hard. Epson Tour top 10, when you rank, that’s amazing too. So either way I’m just trying to do my best each day and play well my golf,” Lee said. “Because I keep playing the Epson Tour, I think that’s why just I keep playing well – Epson Tour and keep playing well to Monday qualify too.”
