New LIV Golf player Thomas Pieters has revealed that he has been sacked by agent Mark Steinberg – who also represents Tiger Woods.

Pieters was a surprise addition to the LIV roster for the 14-event season, just 24 hours after taking to Twitter to voice his displeasure of not being included in the elevated Genesis Invitational field on the PGA Tour last week.

The big hitting Belgian made his Ryder Cup debut for Europe in 2016 and was heavily tipped to make a second bow in Rome for Luke Donald’s charges in September before he joined the Saudi backed organisation and teed it up in the opening LIV event of the season in Mayakoba.

According to Sports Illustrated, Pieters was axed by Steinberg just moments after touching down in Mexico.

“Weirdest thing ever,” Pieters told golf reporter Alan Shipnuck. “He’s just gone.”

The Belgian golf star was then asked if Steinberg had taken a percentage of his LIV Golf signing bonus before ditching the golfer.

“No,” Pieters joked. “If he did, I would have tweeted that myself.”

Steinberg of course counts fifteen-time major winner Woods as the prime horse in his stable but also represents Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas and Matt Fitzpatrick so the decision to dispose of Pieters is hardly a surprising one.

Pieters shot +2 for 54-holes on his LIV debut, banking $151,000 for his share of 32nd place.
