Nick Faldo took to Twitter to indirectly back Rory McIlroy but more to slate Sergio Garcia in the wake of the Spaniard’s recent comments on the eve of the first LIV Golf event of the season.

During the week, Garcia branded McIlroy as ‘immature’ and the reason for the breakdown in their relationship after the 43-year-old joined the Saudi backed organisation last year.

Faldo, a former Ryder Cup captain to Garcia made his feelings known on social media, stressing that the 2017 Masters winner is the immature one.

“Now this is rich coming from the most immature player I’ve ever witnessed!!” he commented.

The Englishman was European captain in 2008 when Europe were comfortably beaten by Paul Azinger’s USA side in Valhalla.

Garcia contributed just half a point throughout the week including losing to the now mythical Anthony Kim in the Sunday singles and fifteen years on, it appears there is no love lost between the pair.

During the 2014 Ryder Cup in Gleneagles, Faldo branded Sergio’s performance six years earlier as ‘useless.’

“He was useless. Half a point, bad attitude. Anyway, we move on six years later,” he told the Golf Channel.

Golf Channel host Terry Gannon lauded Garcia as ‘spectacular’ during the 2014 contest but Faldo was quick to remind him of one blemish on his record – proving there is no love lost between the pair.

“Yes, apart from one.” (2008)

Garcia has since gone on to become the record Ryder Cup points scorer but is unlikely to make an eleventh appearance this September.
