Tom McKibbin has parted ways with his caddie Chris Selfridge following last week’s Singapore Classic.

Despite McKibbin notching his best ever DP World Tour finish in a T12 result in Singapore, the Holywood talent has decided to go in a different direction and had David McNeilly on the bag this week in Thailand.

McKibbin enlisted the services of Selfridge at the beginning of the 2022 season and it’s a partnership that soon blossomed; the Northern Irish duo winning promotion to the DP World Tour from the Challenge Tour’s season-long Road to Mallorca at the first time of asking.

“Chris is a really knowledgeable guy and he’s been really good so far,” McKibbin told IrishGolfer of Selfridge’s influence last year as he made his way through his Challenge Tour season.

“He’s helped me a lot, not just on the course but in practice as well. I’m still getting used to Tour set-ups. On the Challenge Tour there’s more strategy involved and Chris is a great help with that.”

The pair ticked off a major goal in earning McKibbin’s DP World Tour card for the 2022/23 season and while results have been solid overall, two missed cuts when opportunity really knocked at $9m events in Abu Dhabi and Dubai were a blow to McKibbin, who no doubt is looking to fast-track his progression on Tour.

That journey will now take place without Selfridge by his side. A superb player in his own right, Selfridge previously worked for Michael Hoey and DP World Tour winner Ryan Fox before signing up with McKibbin.

The pair had been friends for six years prior to working together and will no doubt go on to thrive in their respective careers as player and caddie for many years to come.

Two rounds of 71 saw McKibbin miss this week’s halfway cut at the Thailand Classic.
