Olivia Mehaffey was left ruing her par-5 scoring after posting a third-round three-over-par 76 at the Magical Kenya Ladies Open at Vipingo Ridge.

Despite having five par-5s on the par-73 layout to the north of Mombasa, scoring has been difficult all week, and Tadragee’s Mehaffey played the long holes in two-over on moving day, stifling the upward progress that saw her advance from well outside the cutline after day one.

After starting her round with a birdie-three, Mehaffey gave the shot back at the par-5 second, and then ran off seven consecutive pars, including back-to-back par-5s at six and seven, to make the turn level for the day. A bogey at the par-4 tenth was followed by a double-bogey seven on the next, before trading two birdies and two bogies on the closing four to reach the clubhouse on +11, tied for 50th place.

Indian Aditi Ashok continues to lead the way, shooting the low score of the day for the second time in three rounds, and her four-under 69 saw her post -13, and stretch her advantage over Thai April Angurasaranee to six strokes. Ashok takes the healthy lead to Sunday’s final round, looking to take a wire-to-wire victory in the LET’s season opener.

With just seven of the 62 competitors left in the field under-par through three rounds, Ashok’s tally is extremely impressive, and an incredible 36-strokes covers the field.
