The 2023 DP World Tour season gets underway this week with three places in The 151st Open at Royal Liverpool available at the Joburg Open at Houghton Golf Club in Johannesburg, South Africa with new boys John Murphy and Tom McKibbin among the chasers.

While they are not making their debuts in Europe’s top-tier, the pair are embarking on their rookie seasons on the DP World Tour after earning their full playing privileges earlier this month.

Teenager McKibbin earned his passage via the top-20 on the Challenge Tour Rankings while Murphy secured his card at the eleventh hour at Q-School last week – as did Gary Hurley who is not in the field.

The leading three players, not already exempt as of closing date, who make the cut at the Joburg Open will earn places in The Open from 16 – 23 July 2023. In the event of a qualifier becoming exempt before the closing date (Thursday, 1 June 2023), a reserve list from each OQS will be created, based on the final positions.

In the event of a tie for a qualifying place, the player with the higher ranking in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) at the beginning of the week commencing 21 November will be awarded a place in The Open.

The full list of exemptions for The 151st Open will be announced in February 2023.

The Open Qualifying Series continues at the ISPS HANDA Australian Open at Victoria and Kingston Heath from 1-4 December.
