England’s Marcus Mohr is the man to catch after the first round of the 2022 Alps Tour Stage 1 Qualifier at Acaya Golf Club.

Mohr fired a four-under-par 68 to lead Galway’s Ronan Mullarney by two shots in the 36-hole qualifier with the pair the only players under-par.

The Englishman, a former Alps Tour winner is attempting to gain his playing status for the 2023 season. He opened his round today with 5 birdies and a single bogey in a front nine of 32 and then closed out his round with a bogey and a birdie on the back nine.

The 150th Open Championship participant opened with six successive pars before birdies on seven and nine saw him turn in 34.

He recovered from a bogey on eleven with a third birdie of the day on 12 before closing his round with six pars.

Mullarney who turned pro in 2019 is looking to gain playing status and stability on the Alps Tour for the 2023 season to kickstart his career after the closure of the EuroPro Tour cast his future into uncertainty.

Fellow Irish players Gary McGrane and John Hickey are four-over while Maynooth amateur Jordan Boles is a shot further back.
