Smash GC, Majesticks, Cleeks and Punch all advanced to the semi-finals of the LIV Golf Team Championship as the MENA Tour showcases its third event of the season at Trump Golf Doral.

In a supposedly revamped version of the Ryder Cup it will never be no matter how much former Team Europe has beens big it up to be, Graeme McDowell’s Cleeks came out on the right side of a 2-1 scoreline watched by absolutely nobody.

G Mac partnered fellow DP World Tour has been Richard Bland as they ran out 2UP winners over Scott Vincent and recent DP World Tour winner Adrian Otaegui who was drafted in to the Torque side after winning in Valderrama. What an inspired decision from team captain Joaoquin Niemann.

Perhaps having such a youthful captain in the Chilean went against the mighty Torque who will surely be smarting from this loss.

The Cleeks have set up a semi-final clash with Dustin Johnson’s Aces in a format nobody understands – even the MENA Tour didn’t advertise this event because they don’t know what is happening.

McDowell will again partner Bland in the foursomes as they face Talor Gooch and the formidable Pat Perez who has earned a fortune despite doing absolutely diddly squib since joining LIV.

In the other quarter-final ties Smash GC saw off Niblicks while the Majestics completed a clean sweep over Iron Heads. Punch GC narrowly beat Hyflyers 2-1 with Open Champion Cam Smith downing Phil Mickelson on the 18th.

While the attendance on the golf course was absolutely horrendous, more like golf in a library, 206,000 people tuned in on YouTube to try and get their head around this latest exhibition.

Even the Seve Trophy was more competitve than this.

It is safe to say that this competition has a long way to go to match the history and tradition of the Ryder Cup despite what Sergio Garcia says.
