Leona Maguire is excited for her Aramco Team Series debut in New York today as she tees it up in the Saudi backed event at Trump Golf Links at FerryPoint.

This is the fourth of a five-event series and Maguire, who is making her first appearance since the KPMG Women’s Irish Open, is looking forward to her first experience.

“This is my first one. Excited to see what it’s all about. It’s obviously a lovely venue this week and always nice to be part of a team.

“The course kind of looks a little linksy and a little Irish feel to it. Weather is a little nicer but the views of New York are incredible, and the bridges, and obviously a big Irish community in New York so hopefully there will be some fans out to support this week.

“Hopefully there will be some big crowds, especially on the weekend, and the bigger crowd you have cheering you on, the better.”

The Aramco Team Series – New York will see an individual 54-hole stroke play tournament take place alongside a 36-hole Team event with each tournament having a prize pool of USD $500,000.

Maguire is a team captain this week and she selected Liz Young and Tvesa Malik for the 36-hole team event and she insists playing as part of a team is more fun rather than adding unnecessary pressure.

“You always try to do as well as you possibly can. When your teammates are relying on you a little bit more, you want to do even better. We are just going to have fun and enjoy it as much as you can, and the more you enjoy it, usually the better you play.”

Sotogrande champion Nelly Korda headlines the field while recent LPGA Tour winner and defending New York champion Charley Hull is one of the in-form golfers this week.

The Englishwoman is also a team captain and she drafted Dame Laura Davies into her side. Davies has a staggering 87 tournament wins across the globe including 45 LET titles and 20 LPGA Tour titles.

Nelly Korda, who is number four in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings, chose Finland’s Noora Komulainen – who was part of Jessica Korda’s winning team in Sotogrande – and the duo will also play with France’s Celine Herbin.
