Leona Maguire missed her first cut since June as she failed to make the weekend at the AmazingCre Portland Classic on the LPGA Tour.
The Cavan woman now has a rare off weekend as she followed up her three-over 75 in her opening round with a one-over 73 on day two to end her tournament at four-over-par, four shots off the cut line.
Maguire was better in her second round at Columbia Edgewater Country Club but only thanks to two late birdies at the 15th and 16th, which added some gloss to her scorecard after three bogeys.
The European Solheim Cup star is set to suffer a hit in the Race to CME Globe standings as she nears the end of season play-offs, with the Slieve Russell woman still projected to lie 14th.
Meanwhile, Germany’s Esther Henseleit fired a stunning eight-under 64 to roar to the top of the leaderboard at 10-under-par, where she was joined by Lilia Vu after a 66.
Henseleit racked up ten birdies in her round, five of which were consecutive, to go with two bogeys to join Vu in a share of the lead after the American posted six birdies and two bogeys.
Spain’s Carlota Ciganda holds third at nine-under-par after a 66, with six players – including ISPS HANDA World Invitational champion Maja Stark – at eight-under-par.
It was also an excellent day for Oregon native Caroline Inglis, who shot a hole-in-one on the par-three 13th at the Macan Course – a track she plays frequently any time she’s not competing – on her way to a 70 that has her tied for 10th at seven-under-par.
Next up for Leona is the KPMG Woman’s Irish Open at Dromoland Castle that tees off on Thursday.
