Olivia Mehaffey withdrew from the Skatfö Open after a tough opening round in Sweden, extending her missed cut streak to nine consecutive events.

The Tandragee woman had mixed three birdies with seven bogeys and a triple-bogey in a seven-over 76 in her opening round in Lysekil to sit outside the top-100 after the first day.

After the withdrawl Mehaffey posted on Twitter to explain that she is now taking some time away from the game in what has been a tough time.

Since finishing ninth at the Comunidade de Madrid Ladies Open in May, the last in a run of five top-20 finishes in six starts, Mehaffey has been battling for anything in her game to try and make it into the final round of an event.

The former Arizona State star hasn’t made a cut since that finish in Spain and last week failed to make it through the first stage of LPGA Tour Q-School, meaning she is set for another season on the feeder tours next year.

Due to her strong start to the season, Mehaffey should retain her LET status as she currently sits 70th in the Race to Costa del Sol standings, but her Epson Tour card is at risk as she has only played once on the US second-tier.

Her next start was due to be at the Åland 100 Ladies Open in Finland next week, however following her statement this might now not be the case. The team at Irish Golfer would like to wish Olivia the best in what is clearly a difficult time for her both on and off the course.
