Cormac Sharvin made the most and then some of his first made cut on the DP World Tour in 14 attempts by securing his best top-tier finish of his career at the D+D REAL Czech Masters in Prague.
The Ardglass man shot a six-under 66 in his final round – with the event reduced to 54 holes due to no play being possible on Saturday after a deluge of rain – to finish the week tied for 13th at 10-under-par.
It’s a dramatic turnaround in fortunes for Sharvin, who hadn’t made the cut at any event since March, a run which lasted 13 events. But this kind of a result could be the spark he needs to revitalise his season.
It could have been even better for the 29-year-old, who was eight-under for the day thru 12 holes courtesy of six birdies and an eagle, but his finish was poor as three bogeys and one birdie in his last five holes saw him slide down the leaderboard.
However, Sharvin will leap 68 places in the Race to Dubai standings courtesy of this result, to 229th and having been seemingly assured of losing his status for next season, he will have renewed belief he could yet work his way back into the top-125 off the back of this performance.
At the top, there was ecstasy for Maximilian Kieffer but agony for Gavin Green as the German secured a one-shot win at Albatross Golf Resort in dramatic circumstances.
Thirty-two-year-old Kieffer had set the clubhouse target in Prague as a seven-birdie, one-bogey 66 took him to 15-under, which looked to be a good marker for the rest of the field as overnight leader Green struggled.
The Malay was still ahead by one after three birdies and no mistakes in his first 10 holes, but when his drive at the par-four 14th found the water leading to a double-bogey, it dropped him out of the lead for the first time since Friday afternoon.
It still looked like the tournament was destined to go to a play-off as a brilliant approach at the last left Green with eight-feet for birdie to force extra holes, but his putt cruelly horseshoed around the cup and stayed out, which crowned Kieffer a DP World Tour winner for the first time in his career.
Meanwhile, David Carey finished 68th after a rough final round – five birdies, seven bogeys, a double and a quadruple leading to an eight-over 80 to end his week five-over-par.
