It has emerged that Patrick Reed has filed a $750 million lawsuit, accusing Golf Channel and its broadcaster Brandel Chamblee of defamation. The suit was filed on Tuesday in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas.

The claim against Chamblee and Golf Channel says they have been “actively targeting Reed since he was 23 years old, to destroy his reputation, create hate, and a hostile work environment for him, and with the intention to discredit his name and accomplishments as a young, elite, world-class golfer.”

“It is well-known on tour that Mr. Reed has been abused and endured more than any other golfer from fans or spectators who have been allowed to scream obscenities only to be glorified by NBC’s Golf Channel for doing so, because it gets Defendants Chamblee and Golf Channel “clicks,” viewership, ratings and increased revenue.”

The former Masters champion joined the Saudi-backed LIV Golf series in June and has no doubt been annoyed by Chamblee’s relentless criticism of the league.

A former PGA Tour player himself, Chamblee has become a leading network analyst in America and like most pundits, he’s also been critical of Reed in the past, not least following his blatant rule infringement when improving his lie in a bunker at the World Challenge in 2019.

However, it seems Chamblee’s latest comments in the aftermath of a court ruling against three LIV players trying to compete in the FedEx Cup playoffs really grabbed Reed’s attention.

On air, Chamblee said of the verdict, “Golf won today. Murderers lost”. The $750million lawsuit claims Chamblee had “viciously defamed Reed’’ and others by the association, in essence calling Reed a murderer because he now plays with LIV.

In the 30-page complaint, Reed also alleges that “misreporting information with falsity and/or reckless disregard of the truth, that is with actual and constitutional malice, purposely omitting pertinent key material facts to mislead the public, and actively targeting (Reed) to destroy his reputation, create hate, and a hostile work environment for him”.

The complaint also takes issue with Chamblee’s assertion  that Reed “would have no problem playing golf for Stalin, Hitler, Mao Zedong, Pol Pot, and Vladimir Putin”.

“This statement is false because Mr Reed never aligned himself with a ‘tyrannical, murderous leader.’”

“He is playing golf for LIV, which simply happens to be financed by the PIF, which has invested in and financed some of the nation’s and the world’s largest and respected corporations.

“This would be akin to stating that LeBron James has aligned himself with a ‘tyrannical, murderous leader’ because he plays in the National Basketball Association, which has intricate ties to the People’s Republic of China, whose government is accused of a current and ongoing genocide against the Muslim Uyghur people.”

The complaint was filed by Larry Klayman who has filed a number of high-profile defamation lawsuits, notably against Hugo Chávez, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Dick Cheney, Barack Obama and Mark Zuckerberg, though none have been successful.

He also previously filed a deportation petition against Obama, once writing of the former POTUS, “It is time that we Christians, Jews, people of faith and all true patriots say: enough is enough, and ourselves, in a very real way, “Occupy Washington” to cleanse the nation of the half-Muslim, anti-white, socialist fraud in the White House before the nation goes under for the final count”.

In 1998, Klayman also reportedly sued his own mother.
