Lurgan’s Annabel Wilson carded a second successive even par round of 73 to breeze through to the match play stages of the 122nd U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at Chambers Bay.

The UCLA star traded four birdies with four bogeys to qualify for the knockouts from a tie for 26th place at even.

Three players shared top spot and medallist honours at 10-under par, including the remarkable first round leader Alice Ziyi Zhao; the 13-year old adding a four-under 69 to her opening 67 to cruise into the match play rounds.

Laney Frye carded a second consecutive 68 while fellow American Latanna Stone moved through the field courtesy of a brilliant 65 to share top qualifying honours with Zhao, the second youngest player in the field, at 10-under.

Wilson, who’s flying the flag for Ireland solo this week, now plays New Zealand’s Fiona Zu in their last-64 encounter. Zu signed for a three-under 70 to join Wilson in the match play after an even par 36-hole qualifying total.

Their match gets underway in Washington at 17.10 Irish time.
