Beth Coulter’s sensational season continued as she opened her European Ladies Amateur Championship campaign with a four-under 68 to lie just one shot adrift of the first-round lead.

Coulter carded five birdies with just one dropped shot at Golf de St Germain while England’s Charlotte Heath and Italy’s Alessia Nobilio share the lead on five-under after rounds of 67.

The Kirkistown Castle native was level-par after a birdie on 3 and a bogey on 7 but announced herself in this championship with a brace of birdies at the turn before adding two more in her last four holes.

Birdies on 15 and 17 lifted the Irish Girls and Women’s Close champion into a share of third place in France.

The 18-year-old is comfortably the leading Irishwoman with Douglas native Sara Byrne and Lahinch’s Aine Donegan back on three-over after opening rounds of 75.

Kate Lanigan is seven-over after a 79 while Aideen Walsh is a shot further back after an eight-over 80.

The top-60 and ties after 54 holes will progress into the fourth and final round.
