SIM Max Rescue set for McIlroy’s artillery in 2020

As a long-iron replacement, it’s imperative that hybrids be versatile and playable in all conditions. That’s why TaylorMade has incorporated V Steel technology into a hybrid for the first time in the company’s history with SIM Max Rescue. The clubhead is engineered to deliver improved turf interaction and reduced friction when playing from various lies. A reshaped leading edge works in conjunction with V Steel to further improve playability and strike conditions.

Designers rounded the toe and adjusted the face angle to give SIM Max Rescue a more confidence-inspiring shape at address for all levels of golfers. It utilises the same C300 Steel face used in the SIM Max fairway woods to help improve ball speed, durability and overall performance. The corrective technologies of Twist Face and Speed Pocket offer improved performance and forgiveness on mishits on the toe, heel and low on the face.

For a bit of fun, TaylorMade Tour staff actually built a SIM Max rescue for Rory McIlroy during his testing of the drivers. He hit it and straight away fell in love with it, so much so he will put it in play on certain courses in 2020.

“It’s weird, I have actually played with it a bit now. I have never been a rescue or hybrid guy. I am a bit of a traditionalist and I never felt there was any room for them in the pro game. We are all professionals and should be well able to shame long irons off the deck,” said McIlroy.

“I picked this thing up and it’s unbelievable. I can flight it, hit it low and high and it’s like a 3 iron that is as easy to hit as a 7 iron for me. I had to convince myself to game it but if the technology is available why not use it, it will feature in my bag at certain events this year”

The par 5s up Magnolia Lane would certainly yield to Rory with a rescue and if he can gain any advantage by breaking down his traditional views on hybrid clubs, more tour professionals are sure to follow. If it’s good enough for Rory, we see a big year ahead for the SIM Max rescue.
