Leona Maguire is being tipped as one of Europe’s star performers at this week’s Solheim Cup, with BoyleSports making her second favourite at 6/1 to be top points scorer for the visitors.
The Cavan woman played all five sessions in last year’s renewal in Spain and helped put three points on the board for Europe as an historic tie ensured they kept possession of the trophy. Team Europe is now bidding to take home the bragging rights for the fourth consecutive time after victories in 2019 and 2021.
However, hosts USA are set to tee off as odds-on favourites at 8/11 to win the trophy back as they go into battle with a star-studded line-up including the first and second ranked golfers in the in the world; Nelly Korda and Lilia Vu.
The American duo top the betting to come out with most points at the end of the week with Korda, a six-time winner on the LPGA Tour this season alone, a 7/1 shot and Vu closely behind on 15/2.
The European defence, led by captain Suzann Pettersen, is bolstered by the likes of world number 10 Celine Boutier and points list leader Charley Hull, who is 11/2 favourite to be Europe’s top point scorer at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Virginia.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “Leona Maguire took the Solheim Cup by storm as a rookie in 2021 and with another solid performance in Spain last year under her belt, punters are confident she’ll have a leading role to play again as Europe go all out to defend the trophy.”
