Ciaran Harrington, son of Padraig, is playing his first ever competitive round this week and he might well be the first golfer ever to have his maiden outing with a scorecard televised.
The 15-year-old youngest son of the three-time major winner is teaming up with dad at the PNC Championship, having watched older brother Paddy partner up for each of the previous four outings.
And things couldn’t have started much better for Team Harrington. Playing in scramble format, they’d birdie three of the opening four and five of the first seven and, on the greens at least, it was Ciaran, 16 this month, who was doing a lot of the damage.

Whilst the putt on four may have been a little pacy, the line was excellent, but the putt he rolled in on the sixth was textbook and, at -5 through seven holes, they were amongst the names at the top of the board.

Unfortunately, that was as good as it got for the Harringtons, who’d drop a shot at eight and pick up another birdie on the 12th as rain descended on Orlando’s Ritz-Carlton Golf Course and most of the back nine was played in tricky conditions.
“67 for us today in Ciaran’s first ever competitive round,” Harrington Snr tweeted out after they’d signed their card. “He did great. It was a real pleasure playing with Annika Sorenstam and her son Will [McGee], who also played great shooting 10-under.”
Sunday is the second and final round of the event, where Team Kuchar have stormed into a three-shot lead after an opening round of -15.
