England’s Tyrrell Hatton is reportedly in talks to become part of Jon Rahm’s new LIV Golf team.

It was reported on Sunday morning that USA Ryder Cup player Tony Finau was locked in talks over a €60 million deal to join the Saudi backed tour and become the first singing for Rahm’s new four-man team but now, Golf WRX are claiming that it could be the Spaniard’s Ryder Cup teammate, Hatton, who will join him first.

Rahm and Hatton are close having partnered each other at the Ryder Cup in Whistling Straits and Marco Simone.

After Rahm’s defection to LIV Golf on Thursday evening, European Ryder Cup stalwart Rory McIlroy stated that Europe will have to rejig their qualification criteria to guarantee Rahm can play at Bethpage Black in 2025.

“Jon [Rahm] is going to be in Bethpage in 2025 so, because of this decision, the European Tour are going to have to rewrite the rules for Ryder Cup eligibility,” McIlroy explained.

“There’s absolutely no question about that – I certainly want Jon Rahm on the next Ryder Cup team.

“I’m going to miss competing against him week in, week out. He has got so much talent, he’s so tenacious and he’s a great team-mate in the Ryder Cup. The thing that I’ve realised is that you can’t judge someone for making a decision that they feel is the best thing for them.”

Marquee players moving to LIV Golf have not been as frequent as CEO Greg Norman would have wanted but it seems as if Rahm’s move could open the floodgates if Finau and Hatton do follow him over.

This will put even more extreme pressure on PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan who appears to be losing more control by the day and he is due to meet with PIF governor, Yasir Al Rumayyan to try and finalise a merger agreement before the December 31 deadline.
