The financial disparity between the PGA Tour and its Strategic Alliance partner the DP World Tour may never be more evident than on weeks like this where a 20-man ‘silly season’ event like the Hero World Challenge can offer $4.5 million while the Australian and South African Opens boasted a combined $2.6 million.
Scottie Scheffler’s reward for topping the field in The Bahamas was $1 million, taking his annual on-course earnings to $22 million, while it was recently announced that he’s set to bolster this with an additional $6 million by finishing fifth on the PGA Tour’s Player Impact Program table.
Will Zalatoris, making his first start since withdrawing on the eve of the Masters back in April, finished bottom of the 20-man field at the Hero World Challenge earned $120,000, while Tiger Woods collected $130,000 for finishing 18th.
For their wins in Australia and South Africa, Joaquin Niemann and Dean Burmester collected $178,000 and $250,000 respectively. Burmester completed back-to-back wins and a South African double having won the Joburg Open a week prior, taking his total fortnight’s earnings to something in the region of $340,000.
In 13 LIV Golf Individual starts in 2023, Burmester registered two top five finishes and finished 14th in the rankings, collecting in excess of $6 million, while Niemann, whose best finish was seventh, made over $4.5 million.
Ashleigh Buhai, who starred alongside Niemann in taking top prize in the Women’s Australian Open, also walked away with $178,000.
Of the three Irish players who made the cut in Australia, Conor Purcell’s tied 33rd finish saw him walk away with a shade under €8,000, while Mark Power at tied 42nd got a little over €6,000 and Tom McKibbin’s tie for 51st was worth €4,118.
