18-year old wunderkind, Oihan Guillamoundeguy from France, is one to watch as he showed by earning his first Alps Tour victory in Italy this weekend.

But the Irish players also had a good week with Ronan Mullarney finishing in joint 12th on seven under par which should be enough to almost guarantee his ascension to the Challenge Tour ranks next year.

His third place Alps Tour positioning on the Order of Merit means, with just two tournaments left this year, he is almost certain to get one of the five Challenge Tour cards on offer.

Paul McBride finished inside the top 25, two shots behind Mullarney on five under while Michael Young missed the cut on Friday after posting a five over total for two rounds.

Both Irish players who made the cut finished well behind the new French star, Oihan Guillamoundeguy who finished on 13 under par after the three day tourney as he came from behind to win his 1st professional tournament, the 2023 Abruzzo Alps Open by 1 stroke.

In 2nd place, with a three-day score of 12 under-par was Netherland’s Davey Porsius followed by Estonia’s Sander Aadusaar, Spain’s Victor Garcia Broto and French duo: Augustin Hole and Franck Medale.

Guillamoundeguy shot a final round of 4 under-par 66, with 2 bogeys and 6 birdies to conclude the tournament with a three-day total of 13 under-par. He is just 18 years old, and turned professional at the end of 2022. Guillamoundeguy already was an Alps Tour winner as he won last season while he was still competing as an amateur and after he sealed his 1st professional win, Guillamoundeguy was very emotional.

“Today was really good. It was a good fight. The pins were really tricky today but I did really well with my caddie. I made a small mistake on the 9th hole but was able to bounce back with a birdie on the 12th so it was really good. I’m so happy, it’s a nice feeling.”  He added: “Miglianico Golf & Country Club is a really good course, there are some easy holes and some tough holes. It’s a bit tricky but if you want to win here you have to hit the ball well.

“I moved up in the Order of Merit and that was my objective. You know the 1st year as a pro isn’t always easy as there is a lot of pressure but I’m really happy about how this week went. Now I will go back home and enjoy this win with my friends and family and then back to work to focus on the end of the season where I want to try and win another tournament.”

Twenty-seven years old, Davey Porsius, from Netherlands finished in 2nd place, only 1 stroke from the title. He stayed near the top of the leaderboard for the entire week and was in the lead after yesterday’s 2nd round. He shot an even par, 70 in the final round with one double bogey, three bogeys and five birdies for a three-day total of 12 under-par. Porsius is a previous winner on the Alps Tour as he won the 2022 Hauts de France-Pas de Calais Golf Open title last spring.

The Alps Tour players now have a few weeks off before the next scheduled event which gets underway from September 14th– 16th at AA Saint Omer Golf Club in Saint-Omer, France for the 2023 Hauts de France-Pas de Calais Golf Open, it will be the last regular event of the season.
