Seamus Power missed the cut by three shots at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson but he can take confidence from a second round of 67.

Power’s chances of making the cut were all but over after an opening 73 at the low scoring event but he replied with a spirited round which included six birdies and two bogeys.

The West Waterford man birdied the 2nd, 6th and 7th to give himself a glimmer of hope that he could produce something miraculous to make the cut.

However, a bogey on 8 put paid to this hopes. Birdies on 9 and 14 came either side of a bogey on 13 and he finished on a high with a closing birdie and two-under total.

Jake Knapp will take a one shot lead into the weekend after back to back rounds of 64 lifted him to fourteen-under, one ahead of Troy Merritt and Matt Wallace.

Knapp who is chasing his second PGA Tour title of the season marched to the turn with four birdies in five holes and recovered from a bogey on the 3rd, his 12th with four birdies in his last six holes.

“I feel like still hit some not-so-great shots over the last two days. Yeah, for the most part hitting it pretty solid and keeping in the right areas.

“Made it relatively easy on myself. Never really felt like I had to scramble or anything like that.”

Knapp has been working on his putting after a couple of lean weeks and he saw it pay off.

“Yeah, I mean, the greens are very pure. We were talking about how well the greens held up yesterday afternoon. Even with the rain if the morning they were really nice.

“Yeah, early on in the year felt like I was putting well, and for the last month or so the stroke felt the same and ball wasn’t going in the hole.

So just put a little bit more of a premium the last couple weeks on green reading. Yeah, nice to see a few more going in.”
