Ireland’s Niall Kearney is getting in some early season tournament play and grabbed a solo third place at the Hilton Dreamland GC on the Mediterranean Tour.

Kearney travelled to Cairo last week to take part in a couple of events on the Mediterranean Tour which get him some much needed course time and some warm weather!

“It’s great to be out here in Egypt. I came out for a couple of weeks to get some competitive rounds under my belt early and of course the weather being so bad in Ireland in the last little while has hampered my preparation somewhat. So when I got the chance to play two 3-day tournaments back to back with three days in between for rest & practice, I grabbed it with both hands,” said Kearney.

“I was pleasantly surprised at how well run the tour is here. It is superbly organised with water and fruit available on the tee boxes, live scoring throughout the tournament. Free practice facilities for the duration of my trip and fantastic gym facilities etc.”

“I wasn’t quite sure what to expect of my game but I played really well in my first event, posting scores of 68-72-70 for a 6 under par total and solo 3rd place. I was in the final group on the final day and had my chances to really push towards the leader but just fell short.”

“Overall though, I’m very happy with my performance and feel energised being back out there playing with a card in hand.”

Niall’s second tournament starts tomorrow at the Allgeria GC and we wish him the best of luck.
