Lisburn’s Paula Grant is now the leading Irish contender at the 88th edition of the Portuguese Ladies Amateur Championship.

Grant carded a third round 80 to claim a share of 12th position on 20 over par, a full twelve shots behind current leader, England’s Annabel Fuller.
The seaside links has been wreaking havoc with the field and scores remained high on a trying third day. Lurgan’s Annabel Wilson is one shot behind Grant after an 81 left her on 21 over par and in a tie for 15th.
The teenager had managed to break 80 on the first two days but even her brave resistance came to an end today.
Further down the field, Clandeboye’s Jessica Ross signed off for an 84 while Valerie Clancy’s struggles continued, the Killarney native adding an 85 to yesterday’s 86.
It’s looking increasingly like a week that will be put down to a great experience for the Irish contingent, though in these scoring conditions, as crazy as it seems, 12 shots may not even be an insurmountable lead come tomorrow. Watch this space!
