There was an upset for the books yesterday at the Women’s and Girls’ Interprovincial Matches in Castle Dargan as having comfortably overcome Munster on Wednesday, the Ulster girls team struggled from the off against the Connacht home side and went 2-1 down following the morning foursomes. Determined not to let this opportunity slide, the girls in blue carded three wins courtesy of Ada Bowler, Chloe O’Connor and Annabel Greham to clinch the win by 5 points to 3.

On the other side of the course, Leinster and Munster went toe-to-toe, but despite wins for Anna Dawson and Corrina Griffin in the foursomes and for Niamh Dwyer against recent Leinster Girls’ Champion Anna Foster in the singles, the strong Leinster side remain unbeaten as they head to the final day’s play today at the Co. Sligo venue.

In the Women’s matches, it was a clean sweep for Ulster in the morning foursomes. Although Maeve Kelly and Claire Staunton were 3 holes ahead for Connacht through 10, a run of 4 birdies from the pairing of Lucy Simpson and Chloe Weir on the back 9 would ensure a 2&1 victory. In the afternoon, Emma Forbes’ win against Hilary Hall was followed by a half point for Louise Coffey against Shannon Burke while Lucy Simpson and Chloe Weir carded 1.5 points between them. Kate Gallagher earned a sole point for her side as she triumphed over Jessica Ross on the final green.

An unblemished start to the day for Leinster was hindered by wins from Sarah Cunningham and Aideen Walsh in the top two singles matches for Munster. However, the next two points would go in Leinster’s favour as Maynooth University Scholars Meadhbh Doyle and Clodagh Walsh prevailed meaning the tie would end 5-3 to Leinster.

Today will see Leinster take on Ulster for the Women’s title while Connacht face Munster in the third place decider.
