Naas’ Jonathan Yates shot a superb 69 to finish in second place in the stroke play qualifying while Flogas Irish Amateur Champion Peter O’Keeffe from Douglas finished comfortably inside the cut after a 74.

Ireland have a good history in the event with Conor O’Rourke (Naas) our most recent winner in 2016 and he was also leading qualifier and there have been five previous winners from Ireland in total: O’Rourke (2016); Jack Hume, Naas (2014); Paul Cutler, Portstewart (2009); Niall Kearney, The Royal Dublin (2007) and Darren Crowe, Dunmurry (2004).

The first round of match play begins later this morning. O’Keeffe plays Dan Goldstein at 7:38am (12:38pm Irish) and Yates is up against Matt Rendell at 8:00am.
