Rowan Lester has made his fifth cut in six starts since the Sunshine Tour’s mid-season break thanks to a one-under round of 70 and goes into the final round six shots off the lead.
The Hermitage man started the day on one-over after an up-and-down opening round where he made three bogeys in-a-row on both nines but carded five birdies as well. It was a little more routine in round two, as he made 13 pars with one birdie and one bogey on the front nine and then two birdies to a solitary bogey on the way home.
His one-under-par tally leaves him tied for 35th, six shots off the lead and just four from a place in the top 10.
Sadly, Liam Grehan won’t be joining him on Friday’s teesheet. The K Club man improved on his opening round score by one but still finished on five-over-par to miss his fourth consecutive cut as he continues to struggle to rediscover the early-season form he’d shown in making three cuts in his first four starts and producing a top-10 finish at the Zambia Open.
It’s a leaderboard dominated by South Africans at the top, with Benjamin Van Wyk, Jaco Prinsloo, Tyran Snyders, Louis Albertse and Pieter Moolman all tied at -6 going into the final round. Two more South Africans in Kyle Barker and Keegan Thomas are hot on their heels at -5.
