Leona Maguire has seen her odds clipped from 50/1 into 40/1 by bookie BoyleSports to claim her first major at this week’s Evian Championship.
The Cavan native became the first ever Irish woman to land a win on the Ladies European Tour last week with a sensational eagle on the eighteenth securing victory by just one shot at the Aramco Team Series.
Having missed the cut in two of her last three major appearances, the twenty-nine-year-old scraped into the top-25 in last month’s Women’s PGA Championship but is set to tee it up on Thursday at the Evian Golf Resort in scintillating form.
World number one, Nelly Korda, is set make her return to action after missing last week’s event due to a dog bite. The two-time major winner’s last appearance culminated in a missed cut at the PGA Championship, but she now leads the field at 17/2 to rediscover her form this week.
Lilia Vu, the world number two, has also proven popular in the betting at 14/1, fresh from recording a tied-2nd place finish in the Women’s PGA Championship behind Amy Yang (80/1). The South Korean sprung a surprise at last month’s major but has now missed three cuts in her previous four LPGA appearances.
Stephanie Meadow completes the Irish interest and may be a tempting selection for those who love a longshot as the Jordanstown woman, who finished third at last year’s KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, is available at an extremely inviting 500/1.
Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “Leona Maguire’s first win on the European circuit has seen a surge of support for her to make history again and become the first Irish woman to win a major, but with Nelly Korda back in action it’s all to play for in France.”
