Michael McGeady was delighted to pick up an unexpected victory at the Mourne Pro-Am at Royal County Down.

McGeady carded a five under 66 to win by two from Simon Thornton, Tim Rice and local pro Lee Campbell.

“Delighted to have won the pro-am. It was my first time playing the course in a long time so it was nice to shoot a score I wasn’t expecting it so that’s how it goes, it worked out for me today.”

McGeady started well with an opening birdie and roared in front with three in a row from the 6th.

A solid back nine of eight pars and a birdie on 16 was enough to see him over the line.

Nicky Grant and Shane Jenkinson carded two under 69s while Liam Power was a shot further back.

Next up is the Mount Juliet Pro-Am.
