Dermot McElroy and Jonathan Caldwell are the best of the Irish at the heavily rain affected Indoor Golf Group Challenge in Sweden.

McElroy was one-under-par for his round, tied with Caldwell at three-under-par for the tournament when play was abandoned for the day due to a waterlogged course on Friday.

Jeppe Kristian Andersen moved into the lead by carding four birdies in a row from the fourth hole before adding two further gains at the 11th and 14th to reach 12-under-par for the week.

Frenchman Oihan Guillamoundeguy is two shots off the lead at ten-under-par alongside Denmark’s Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen and German Max Rottluff, who had earlier aced the par three fifth.

Andersen, who is one of 78 players who will return to the course on Saturday to complete their second rounds, admits the course in Vesterby is one that he is familiar with having teed it up here on several previous occasions.

“I know this course well as I’m used to playing it in the Nordic League,” he said. “I was actually in a play-off here in 2021 with one of the Swedish guys.

“It just suits my eye from the tee. The greens are firm and fast which I like too. The greens weren’t as firm today due to the rain, but maybe that made it a little bit easier. They were still quick though. All of the aspects of this course suit me quite well”, Andersson told the media.

Danish duo Sebastian Friedrichsen and Lucas Bjerregaard, Englishman Ashley Chesters and overnight leader Benjamin Follett-Smith from Zimbabwe share fifth place on eight under par.

Cormac Sharvin had birdied the first two holes before play was abandoned and will resume on level par. Niall Kearney is 2-under-par through 13 for a total of three-over-par.

Jonathan Caldwell and Stuart Grehan are both yet to get their second rounds underway.

The second round will resume at 8am local time.
