Conroy responds with superb 69 for 13th place at Tiger Invitational

Paul Conroy closed with a three-under 69 as he climbed to a share of 13th at the Tiger Inv by Jason Dufner.

Conroy’s four-under total left him seven shots shy of winner Carson Bacha of Auburn.

The Enniscorthy man shot himself out of contention with a second round 76 but finished on a positive note with four birdies and just the one dropped shot.

East of Ireland champion Alex Maguire managed to edge into the top-20 with back-to-back rounds of 70 for a one-under total while Ulster strokeplay winner Jack Hearn shared 38th on four-over.

Connemara’s Luke O’Neill’s chances of defending the Colleton River Collegiate faded in the final round as he slumped to a three-over 75.

O’Neill had to settle for a share of 34th place and a three-under total.

The Kansas State student carded a brace of double bogeys at the end of his front nine which left him up against it. Kansas also surrendered a fiver-shot lead in the team leaderboard to finish second.

Memphis’ Cian O’Connor was 64th on six-over.

In the Wake Forest Invitational, Mark Power’s Wake Forest secured a fourth place finish while the Kilkenny man shared 22nd place on the individual board.

Power carded rounds of 73, 71, 73 for a seven-over total on a week where just one player shot under par, the winner Nathan Petronzio (-3).

Roscommon’s Thomas Higgins finished in a tie for 30th on nine-over.
