USA pulled off a sensational comeback to stun Team Europe and claim the 2022 Concession Cup in Sotogrande, Spain as they came from 8.5-3.5 down to win 13-11 after a Medinah-esque singles surge.

Matthew McClean, Caolan Rafferty and Jody Fanagan all suffered defeats in their singles matches while Hugh Foley salvaged a half point with Joseph Delaney.

It was a battle of the top mid-am’s between US Mid-Am champion McClean and Evan Beck

Beck roared out of the traps taking four of the first five holes as he turned 4UP. Malone’s McClean who won a foursomes point alongside Foley on Thursday – won three of the next five holes to close to within one of Beck with four to play.

The American regained his control and closed out the match with wins on 15 and 16.

Dundalk’s Rafferty was two for two heading into the Sunday singles after a 4&2 and 6&5 win alongside Gregoire Schoeb.

However, Rafferty ran into Tug Maude who won with the final putt on the 18th green. The lead in this match was never more than two holes with Rafferty levelling affairs on 13 and 17.

Tug came out on top on the 18th to secure a vital point for the visitors.

In the battle of the Seniors Fanagan was swatted aside 3&2 by Bob Royal.

Fanagan of Milltown actually started well, easing into a two up lead through four holes and he managed to turn 1UP.

Royal took two of the first three holes of the back nine before a birdie on 15 and an eagle on 16 left Fanagan with little resistance.
