Lurgan’s Annabel Wilson produced a crushing display of golf to move into the second round of match play at the 122nd U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at Chambers Bay.

Wilson made light work of the Australian amateur champ, Fiona Xu from New Zealand, winning 5&4 on Wednesday in Washington.

The UCLA star won the opening hole with a birdie before being pegged back to all square at the next after Xu found a birdie of her own.

The pair halved the next three in par before Wilson found another birdie at the par-4 sixth to regain the lead.

From there it was one way traffic in favour of the Irish international with another winning birdie on the eighth following by three in succession from the 11th before a par on 14 closed out the match; Wilson bogey-free and brimming with confidence.

Wilson now faces American Julia Misemer in the last-32. The action gets underway at 15.00 Irish time this afternoon.
