The sun may not have shone too often this summer but UV rays remain a constant source of harm that golfers should be protecting themselves against, regardless of the sun’s visibility in the sky.

That’s why clubs are being asked to join the Slip! Slap! Swing! Campaign, an initiative focussed on promoting sun protection, something we can all get behind.

The initiative hopes to highlight the important role clubs play in skin cancer prevention for their members and staff and although they have over 80 golf clubs and unions Sun Protection Accredited to the Slip! Slap! Swing! campaign, they’re after more recruits from Ireland in particular.

The privilege of four and a half hours on a golf course comes with the risk of too much sun exposure and it’s only through education that players can learn to greatly reduce their vulnerability to the sun.

The good news is that skin cancer; including melanoma, the most dangerous form of the disease is mostly preventable by properly protecting your skin from the sun.  The Slip! Slap! Swing! campaign aims to make you aware of the facts, helping you create new healthy habits that will keep you playing this great sport for longer.
