Jon Rahm is believed to be in negotiations with LIV Golf over a move to the Saudi-funded breakaway tour.
Rahm’s withdrawal from the now delayed TGL raised fears that he might join close friends Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia at LIV Golf.
“Right now it would require a level of commitment that I can’t offer,” he said.
Rumours of Rahm moving to LIV Golf began to circle on Twitter and Bunkered have reported that the Spaniard has held talks with CEO Greg Norman.
Nothing has been agreed and an imminent switch isn’t forthcoming but the two-time major winner is closer to joining than he was before.
Rahm has been regularly linked with the Saudi backed tour and publicly backed Sergio Garcia’s inclusion on Luke Donald’s Ryder Cup team.
Rahm’s close relationship with Mickelson and Garcia has always drawn speculation that he could move to LIV in the future while Mickelson’s brother, Tim, was Rahm’s college coach.
Garcia’s Fireballs GC have a vacant space on their team for the 2024 season and should he join it would complete an all-Spanish team alongside David Puig and Eugenio Chacarra.
Should Rahm leave the PGA and DP World Tour, his future in the major championships is secure in the long term. Having won the Masters in April he will appear in all four majors for at least the next five years.
The world number three only played two regular DP World Tour events in the 2023 season but was a regular fixture on the PGA Tour. A potential move to LIV might prompt a change from the incoming Ryder Cup captain to allow players on that tour to compete for Europe in 2025.
