Justin Thomas has defended Rory McIlroy online after a passage from Alan Shipnuck’s new book with offensive comments towards the Northern Irishman surfaced on social media.
In Shipnuck’s new book ‘LIV and Let Die’ which details the emergence of LIV golf and the fallout, disparaging comments from an anonymous former Ryder Cup teammate to McIlroy were brought to light online.
The passage reads: “F**k Rory. I’m so sick of hearing about how he’s some kind of hero who is saving golf. He’s bought and paid for like everybody else, it’s just that his money is coming from the other side…..That he is being held up as some kind of saviour on Twitter and by all the fanboys with their sh*tty podcasts tells you how little people really understand what’s going on.”
Rivalries from last week’s Ryder Cup in Rome have already been swiftly put aside as Thomas leapt to the defence of his friend with a response to the quotes online where he publicly criticised Shipnuck for pedalling lies about player fallout.
“I’d like to speak on behalf of a lot of Tour players and say we are sick of Alan Shipnuck doing what he does. Bring positivity and good stories to help grow the game of golf, not try and make money bashing guys, earning zero trust, with a lot of incorrect information. Ridiculous,” said the two-time PGA Champion.
