Conor Purcell tied for second as play is halted at the the Challenge Tour’s Dormy Open

Conor Purcell’s impressive round of five under par leaves him joint second alongside five other golfers, with play suspended until 9 a.m. tomorrow morning due to a flooded course.

Italy’s Aron Zemmer leads the tournament on eight-under-par – one shot clear of Purcell and company – with four holes to play in his third round which resumes tomorrow morning.

Conor O’Rourke finished his round on one-under-par for the day and three-under for the tournament, tied for 30^th and four shots back from Purcell and the group in second.

Purcell looks likely to improve on his most recent tour finish of 23^rd with a fantastic round of 62 after shooting 67 and 65 on Thursday and Friday respectively.

A birdie on the first got Purcell’s third round off to the perfect start but the Irishman would have been wary of not giving back too many shots after shooting nine birdies but also seven bogeys this week.

Three pars in as many holes preceded another birdie for Purcell on the fifth as he continued his par or better opening weekend round, and he would continue this with four pars on the remaining holes on the front nine.

Purcell started the back nine on two-under-par but quickly improved on this score on the 11^th with his third score of the day in the red to bring him to three-under-par for the day, five-under-par overall.

The 26-year-old hadn’t finished his crusade towards the top of the leaderboard and consecutive birdies on the 13^th and 14^th lifted Ireland’s lowest scorer to joint second in the standings and a run of four pars on the final four holes capped off a fantastic blemish-free third round.

Conor O’Rourke was the other Irish national involved in Sweden this weekend and he played another frustrating round but finished the day one-under-par.

O’Rourke started his round identically to his fellow countryman with a birdie on his first hole and played a solid opening six holes before dropping a shot on the seventh. The Irishman’s bogey-birdie start to the back nine returned O’Rourke to level par for the round.

Not for the first time this week, the 32-year-old would have a string run of birdies and recorded back-to-back birdies on the 15^th and 16^th to bring his score to -4 for the tournament.

A bogey on the 17^th sent O’Rourke a spot back in the standings and a par on the last left him with a decent shout of a strong finish as the tournament enters its final day round of golf.
