Hannah Lee-McNamara (Royal Portrush) was the winner of the Leinster Girls Amateur Open Championship. The event was played at New Forest Golf club from 11-13 July. 45 girls competed in the 54-hole Strokeplay championship with 24 girls making the cut after the second round.

The Royal Portrush golfer shot rounds of 76, 74 & 76 to finish the tournament on +4 total and finish 1 shot clear of Ellen O’Shaughnessy (Co. Louth). Castletroy’s Sadhbh Bullock finished in third place on a total score of +8.

Donnacha Cleary (Tipperary) won the Leinster U18 Boys’ Amateur Open Championship with scores of 65, 74 & 72 for a –5 total. 84 players teed up in the 54-hole Strokeplay tournament with 41 Boys making the cut on +8.

It was an exciting championship for the Boys as Cleary tied at the top of the leaderboard with James Walsh (Douglas). They entered a 3-hole play-off which was unable to separate them as they remained tied and needed sudden-death holes. They both birdied the par 3 16th and headed for the 17th tee. Cleary made a fantastic birdie on the 17th hole to take the title back to Tipperary.

Recent Irish Boys’ Close Champion, John Doyle (Fota Island) kept his fine form going as he posted a 3-round total of –4 to finish in third place.
