Golf Ireland is thrilled with the announcement made by Minister Thomas Byrne regarding the launch of the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme (SCEP) by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
The Sports Capital and Equipment Programme serves as the principal channel for Government funding dedicated to the development of sports and physical recreation facilities and the procurement of non-personal sports equipment.
Clubs who haven’t applied for SCEP before must register on the Online Sports Capital Register. Applications can be made from 9am on 17 July until 5pm on 8 September, while the deadline for registration is 5pm on 25 August.
Maximum grants for local projects increased from €150,000 to €200,000, with regional projects increased from €300,000 to €500,000. Equipment only grants are also available for up to €70,000 for clubs that do not own their own facility.
Grants issued to successful clubs are awarded at a rate of 95% and there is a specific focus on climate action, sustainability and gender equality.
Last January Golf Ireland collaborated with 2into3 to run a webinar which helped clubs prepare for the new round of the Sports Capital Grant and Golf Ireland CEO Mark Kennelly is delighted with the latest development.
“We welcome the launch of the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme, another transformative step for golf in Ireland,” said Kennelly.
“The increase in grant amounts, coupled with a focus on sustainability and gender equality, heralds a promising future for our sport. We urge all clubs to register and apply, to take full advantage of this significant opportunity.
“We continue to work with the relevant bodies and seek additional funding opportunities in Northern Ireland. And we want to thank Minister Byrne and the Department on what is a landmark moment in our journey to further develop golf.”
