Sara Byrne leads at PGA National as a host of Irish chase National finals

Sara Byrne will take a one shot lead into the final round of the NCAA Palm Beach Regional as she hunts a place in the National finals later this month.

Byrne shot her second successive round of 70 to move to four-under-par to open up a slender lead over Kelly Sim.

The Cork woman was level-par after nine but birdies on 11, 14 and 18 with just one bogey on 16 saw her climb into the lead.

Her Miami team did not qualify for the regional finals but Aine Donegan’s LSU side are seventh in the team leaderboard heading into the final day with the top-5 teams qualifying for the Nationals.

LSU have a five shot gap to close over the final 18 holes with Donegan on five-over-par.

Meanwhile, at the Raleigh Regional, both Beth Coulter and Lauren Walsh remain on course to qualify for the Nationals with Arizona State and Wake Forest perched inside the all important top-5 on the team leaderboard.

Arizona are second on four-under-par with Wake Forest in third on one-over.

Coulter is in a share of 26th place on two-over after a second round of 74 while Walsh is three shots further back after a 77.

Auburn’s Anna Foster recovered from an opening double bogey to post a one-over 73 as her side enjoyed a strong second round to climb into the all important fifth place at the San Antonio Regional.

Foster replied with three birdies in four holes as she moved into 32nd place on eight-over-par.

Annabel Wilson’s UCLA are in eighth place and have work to do to make it to the Nationals
