The Irish trio of Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry and Seamus Power make their way to this week’s BMW Championship collectively looking to find top gear in the second of the Play-Off series.
McIlroy and Power each missed the cut at the FedEx St.Jude Championship while Lowry eventually shared 46th place after four frustrating rounds on the host TPC Southwind course in suburban Memphis.
Lowry grabbed an eagle and 16 birdies over his four days but also battled under the weight of eight bogeys and three triple-bogeys.
In the bigger FedEc Cup picture McIlroy’s second missed cut of the year has seen him drop to No. 9 on the FedEx Cup standings.
With just two 2021/22 season events remaining, a look at McIlroy”s stats the issues with his game remain clear to see. He’s still first in ‘Scoring Average’ second in ‘Driving Distance’, fifth in ‘Birdie Average’, but a lowly 124th in ‘Driving Accuracy’.
Power and Lowry also head to Wilmington in Delaware needing to get themselves back inside the top-30 on the FedEx Cup standings that will qualify them for next week’s season-ender in suburban Atlanta.
Each has dropped out of the 30 with Power now ranked 36th and Lowry 37th.
This week is also special for Power as it is first time he’s reached the BMW and traditionally the second event of the Playoffs.
