The days of the golf equipment signings hot stove might be gone, but every now and then, one signing deserves our attention.
Marco Penge just earned it with his latest gear move.
The newly minted PGA Tour member, by virtue of his runner-up finish in the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai, has joined PXG’s Tour staff. He had used Mizuno clubs since 2022 and played the company’s driver and irons during his three-win season last year in Europe.
“From the first conversation, it was clear PXG is obsessed with performance,” Penge, the 29th-ranked player in the world, said in a press release. “The fitting process, the people, the technology … it’s all built to help players compete at the highest level. I’m excited to work closely with the team and put PXG equipment in play every week.”
Penge was slated to make his season debut this week at the Sony Open, but withdrew due to illness. He is still in the field next week at the American Express.
PXG says Penge will play the new Lightning Tour Mid Driver, Secret Weapon Mini Driver, new PXG 0311 GEN8 4-Iron and PXG 0317 ST 5-P Irons to start the year. Notably, Titleist still lists Penge as a “Golf Ball Player” on its website, and it seems he will continue to play the Pro V1. He also used at least four Scotty Cameron putters last year and won with three different ones.
Penge will be playing both sides of the pond this season as he retained his DP World Tour membership.
“Marco is driven, talented, and unapologetically competitive, exactly the kind of player we want representing PXG,” PXG founder and CEO Bob Parsons said. “He’s committed to getting better every day, and we’re proud to support him with equipment built to perform at the highest level.”
Few other major equipment staff moves are expected for 2026, but PXG is teasing a second addition to its Tour staff that it did not announce on Tuesday.
After Penge’s big 2025, not only will his adjustment to the PGA Tour life be worth watching but so, too, will his adjustment to new gear.
