Tom McKibbin has broken back inside the top-100 in the Official World Golf Rankings following his T-6th place finish at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic at the weekend.

McKibbin has risen from 114th place in the world to 99th as he looks to secure his place in this year’s PGA Championship.

The Holywood man made a crucial par on the 72nd hole at Emirates Golf Club on Sunday to preserve his place inside the top-6 on the leaderboard but also to ensure he clung on to the world ranking points needed to climb back inside the top-100 in the world.

Earning as many world ranking points as possible will be vitally important for McKibbin if he does make his widely expected move to LIV Golf.

The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with an €8 million switch to join Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII team so preserving his place inside the world’s top-100 for as long as he can will be a priority as he looks to secure the necessary major championship exemptions to boost his chances of qualifying for the European Ryder Cup team in September.

Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy remains at world number three following his T4th finish at the weekend while Shane Lowry dropped one place to 28th ahead of his first outing of the campaign at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Hero Dubai Desert Classic winner Tyrrell Hatton is into the top-10 in the world rankings as he rose to world number 8 while Sepp Straka is up to world number 19.
