Leona Maguire is showing early signs of form on the LPGA Tour and she moved to within five shots of the halfway lead at the HSBC Women’s World Championship with a bogey-free 68 in round two.

Maguire moved into a share of 19th place with birdies on the first, sixth, eighth and eighteenth to cap off a fine day’s work at Sentosa Golf Club, Singapore.

She also ran hot on the greens, taking 27 putts as she hit 12 of 14 fairways and 13 of 18 greens.

America’s Auston Kim leads the way on nine-under after a round of 69 that was going swimmingly after five birdies in fourteen holes before she double bogeyed the par-5 16th to bring her back to the field.

She leads by one from Minjee Lee, Ariya Jutanugarn and Haeran Ryu.

Former multiple major winner Lee roared into the mix with a 64.

“I think just I holed a few more putts out there. I holed a few long ones and I also holed out for eagle on the second. That always helps the score,” said the Australian.

Lee didn’t play in the tournament of champions or the opening event of the Asian swing last week so she is pleased with how she has played in her first outing of the year having kept everything pretty much the same during the off-season.

“I haven’t done too much differently but I had a whole bunch of time off this year. I think it’s probably my longest time I’ve ever been away from golf. I’ve obviously been training. I also put in a new driver, so that’s in the bag this week.”
