Sam Murphy holds a two shot lead at the halfway point of his second round at the Alps Tour season opening Ein Bay Open as Hugh Foley and Robert Moran also started brightly.

Murphy, making his debut as a professional, is a staggering six-under-par through nine holes in round two for a nine-under total after opening with a three-under 69.

Foley was the best of the Irish overnight as he began with a for-under 68 that left him just a shot behind French duo Antoine Auboin and Victor Veyret.

The Royal Dublin man birdied his last two holes and at the time of writing is two-under for his second round and sitting in third place on six-under.

Moran had an adventurous opening round as his 69 left him sharing 7th with Murphy and his second round doesn’t start until the afternoon.

Cathal MacCanna let a good start slip as he made three bogeys and two double bogeys in five holes before two late birdies saw him salvage a two-over 74 having been three-under through ten.

Auboin and Veyret shot five under 67s to lead by a shot from Foley, Austria’s Lenny Koch, France’s Arthur Ameil-Planchin and Italy’s Davide Buchi overnight.

“I’m very happy,” Auburn said. “It’s really been a month and a half since I’ve been able to fully get back to practising. I had a bit of apprehension, but in the end, the game is still there.

“I was able to stay patient and enjoy myself from start to finish. I really tried to hit as many fairways and as many greens as possible. And that’s what I managed to do.’

Veyret said: “It was a good round. Bogey-free is always a very nice feeling, to finish like that. I managed the par fives well today, with one birdie and one eagle.

“I worked hard this winter. I’m working with a new coach, so to see that my game is in better shape than last year is a good feeling.”
