The South African swing on the HotelPlanner Tour has proved a fruitful one thus far for the Irish contingent and Max Kennedy is the latest to profit from a high finish as he shot up into the promotion spots on the Road to Mallorca Rankings.
Kennedy carded rounds of 65, 70 and 69 at the weather affected NTT Data Pro-Am at Fancourt Golf Estate which saw him clinch a share of second place as he matched his career best result on the tour with just his second ever top-10 finish.
The Royal Dublin golfer gave his hopes of promotion to the DP World Tour an early shot in the arm as he soared 48 places up the Road to Mallorca Rankings into 6th place with the top-15 set to earn cards at the end of the season.
Kennedy was in the promotion mix last year on his first season as a professional but a late dip in form saw him narrowly miss out on a place in the season-ending Grand Final in Alcanada while twelve months earlier he missed out on a card by one shot at Q-School as an amateur.
This year, the goal is simple.
“I want to get that DP World Tour card, they are becoming rarer and rarer every year, down to 15 now so you want to focus on winning the Road to Mallorca and that’s my goal, take each week at a time and try and win as many tournaments as I can this year.”
Gary Hurley’s T27 finish saw him fall two places to 17th in the Road to Mallorca Rankings but he will still be buoyed by his performances after playing twelve consecutive rounds upon his return from a rare nerve injury which he is still battling.
Liam Nolan is 32nd while Conor Purcell moved up five places to 44th with the top-45 set for November’s Grand Final.
