Liam Nolan admits he hasn’t provided any fireworks during his three weeks in South Africa but hopes to sparkle into life in the final round of the NTT Data Pro-Am at Fancourt Golf Estate.
Nolan is tied for 20th place on six-under, seven shots behind MJ Daffue after a third round of 69 which could have been better had it not been for a double bogey on the par-5 8th – his 17th – which capped another poor finish to an otherwise good round.
“Good and I finished poorly in both rounds, couple of dropped shots in both rounds but I am playing quite well, been a bit stop start this week with the weather but I am playing some good golf,” said Nolan.
The 25-year-old Galway man showed plenty of bright spurts as he birdied the 11th, 18th, 2nd and 7th as well as an eagle on the par-5 17th which was a good stretch of golf after having his tee time delayed nearly four hours after torrential rain.
“I just try not so stress about it, it wouldn’t really help if you do. Today I was at the course at about seven and teed off around one so it’s tough but look it’s a new tournament and different structure for everyone so just get on with it.
“I’m playing some pretty solid golf, there’s been no fireworks yet but a lot of good signs so happy with the way the game is going so just keep going and see where I end up.”
Nolan took on the Outeniqua but will tackle the Montagu on the final day.
“I’m looking forward to it it’s the more challenging course so some good golf can really get you up the leaderboard quicker so really looking forward to another day of good golf.”
Although Nolan is on the periphery of the contending places, his compatriots Max Kennedy and Gary Hurley are four and five shots behind respectively and he would love to see a maiden Irish winner on Sunday.
“It’s an individual sport but you always have to support your own so I haven’t really looked at the leaderboard but I’m sure we are stacked up nicely.”
